Blog #5: #Activism/Slacktivism (four blog posts must be published by Friday, December 16)

What are your thoughts about Activism vs. Slacktivism?  Rewatch the video we viewed in class on Wednesday, December 7, then fully explore your ideas about how social media is utilized by younger generations to spread awareness and engage in issues.
In your blog, you must:
  1. Define both terms.
  2. How is social media being used to spread awareness, address issues, and encourage action and engagement?
  3. How does slacktivism work?  Is it necessarily a good or bad way to engage with social issues?
  4. Use evidence from at least two campaigns from the Edmodo small group (one will likely be the campaign you researched in the library).
Integrate specific evidence from the two campaigns by addressing the same guiding questions we used to examine Kony 2012.  This will also help you fully explore questions 2 and 3 above.
    • How is language used in #campaigns to persuade audiences?
    • How are images used in #campaigns to persuade audiences?
    • How do #campaigns utilize ethos, pathos and logos to achieve their purposes?
    • What do #campaigns as persuasive texts say about the cultural values of the audience that they target?
