INTERNET AND COMMUNICATION EVOLUTION?

COMMUNICATION EVOLUTION AND SKYPE?
According to my perspective (as a "pro" internet user), I think that the internet is leading us to a whole new stage of communication. If you have a choice between driving for an hour just to see your old friend or using Skype and save on those gas money, which one would you choose? I would sure choose the second one (mainly because I can't drive... yet). Unless you are a car racer and likes driving, I'm sure that almost everyone will choose to open the computer. It is just so much easier that way, the time you'd take to turn on the car engine, you could already be talking to your friends!

THE OTHER SIDE
But there is always another side to this. Say you are going through a breakup, would you rather have your boy friend emailing you about wanting to breakup or talking to him/her face to face? Sometimes communicating through internet just lacks the sincerity that human contact brings. The crucial point of the internet largely depends on the situations you've encountered; the level of communicating via internet varies upon situations so it might not be as useful under specific scenarios.  But it is also a cost we (as the user of internet) are willing to pay for a faster, cheaper and more efficient way to communicate.

THE VERDICT
Just like I said previously, I think that the internet is bringing mankind closer to the evolution of communication, as a matter of fact, I think that we are at the peak of evolution due to how rapidly the technology is developing. The pros definitely outweighs the cons that internet communication brings. Though sometimes the vast amount of access that internet provides can be undervalued by many users as it is in their life so much to an extent that they feel numb to their surroundings. So it is our responsibility to appreciate and maintain our awareness around communicating via internet (think how many people have been mugged... or trafficked through something as simple as a chat room on Facebook without them actually noticing the "signs") the amount of risk on here is also something to think about.

ARE WE USING THE INTERNET, OR IS THE INTERNET USING US?

Through the rapid development of the modern technology, people begin relying on the internet (a
little over the top...sometimes). But the internet has proven itself to be a worthy piece of "work" that
has gotten millions and millions of people hooked, however, there is a saying, "If there is light, there must also be darkness." As we explore the brightest part of the internet; we might occasionally wander through the "shadowy" and "unpleasant" side. So is the internet using us, or are we using the internet?

                                        Are We Being Used?
Based on few of the evidences I found; they proved that internet actually has a pretty "dark" side. From virus infested webpages to web search trackers on Google; internet is filled with greedy hackers and tons of people brainwashed by profits. So are we being used? Yes, sadly, we are being used nearly everyday. Do you see the ads that randomly popped up on Google about what you've just searched ten minutes ago....yeah we're being targeted for profit. I recently just searched up the price of a game I've wanted for a month now, 20 minutes later an ad on a website told me that the particular game I wanted is on sale in Walmart for $19.99. Coincidence? I think not. This tells us that our action on the internet is being monitored 24/7 by artificial intelligence or some nerdy kid on the computer (I felt a tingling sense of PRIVACY VIOLATION!) Also, did you know that Facebook has the right to claim and sell your information once it has been posted, I bet 99.9% of Facebook users are shocked to know that because you did not read through 30 pages of user agreement and instead just "sold" your soul to the devil.

                                                               Are We Using?

After coming out from the dark side, how are you feeling? Perhaps... used, betrayed by your most trusted tool? Well do not worry, because for every dark side there is a bright side! There are several user friendly websites and platforms such as Edmodo, CBC News and Khan Academy that are specifically designed to satisfy your needs. From education to entertainment such as Netflix, you get to stream and watch your favourite movies without checking on the TV schedule for just under $10 a month! Or YouTube where you can watch thousands of videos about your favourite topics and have daily interactions with the most popular Youtubers; there are no limits to what you can do using the internet!

Though internet can be tough sometimes, but knowing what the internet can do will make your web-cruising much easier and enjoyable.
