The Internet is leading to the evolution of human communication in positive ways: support

I 100% agree with the point that the internet is leading to the evolution of human communication in positive ways. Look where society is today. Even though we have our faces stuck to our phones more than the past, it has built stronger friendships.

INTERNET COMMUNICATION IS BETTER
http://glenfarrelly.blogspot.ca/2008/10/why-internet-communication-is-better.html
This blog explains how internet communication is better than face to face. "The asynchronous nature of many Internet connections also opens up the possibility of communicating at a time that is convenient, opposed to the hassles of finding mutually suitable times for a face-to-face get-together." This point really stuck out to me, because when it comes to making plans with my friends, communicating online is the easiest, fastest, and convenient way to plan a date. Why go through the pain of finding a time to meet face to face to discuss plans about future dates when you can you can just text the plans in a few thumb movements and seconds?
The relate to this blog is real. The freedom of what you can say online, taking time to think about what to text back, and using emojis! I mean who doesn't love using emojis?😄😄
This blog just states all the positive things of online communication. A must read!!

Obviously, I have experiences with the internet and human communication. Two years ago, I went back to my home country and met a whole lot of new friends. They were the most kind and amazing people. I spent lots of time hanging out with them and having fun, but the day I had to leave came fast. I cried waterfalls when I had to go back to Canada.😅😅 However, what made me less sad was that I could keep in contact with my friends through the internet, aka social media. Till this day we still keep in contact and we plan to meet again in 2018.

Lack of Communication

The evolution of human communication

Nowadays, our communication is mostly done by internet. We use internet to connect with each other, to share our life, and to talk. Then, is the internet leading us to the evolution of human communication  in positive ways? NO, absolutely not. Even though the internet has led us to the convenience of human communication, the internet has stolen two vital things from our life, which are communication itself and relationship with others.

Lack of communication

As technology and the internet have developed, people don't have much communication as they did before the creation of the internet. Even within a family, the internet and social media causes lack of communication. As written on Forbes, Sharon Seline's mom didn't know how her daughter was feeling even though she continually contacted her daughter. According to the article, Sharon sent her mother that she is fine, and she even sent an emoticon showing big smile and hearts. However, on that night when they exchanged the messages, Sharon attempted suicide. Her mother had no idea of how depressed her daughter is, which is completely different from what her SNS - like Facebook, and Twitter - posts show.
It demonstrates that even though we are communicating with each others through social media and the internet, we are lacking communication and the communication through internet is incomplete. The internet and social media cannot convey our emotion fully. We can't know others' feeling by just texting. We can miss many things about others when we just see what they are presenting on their SNS. Since posts on social media cannot represent someone, we should have more time to communicate in person.

Lack of relationship

From Envatomarket
However, in the world of internet, people find more fun than reality - where they meet their real friends, and families. People spend more time on web surfing and SNS. It leads to the lack of communication and make people not to communicate with others as much as they should.

I've experienced this a lot. I did not use any SNS and barely used the internet until grade 9. Every time when I met my friends, I couldn't talk with my friends as much as I wanted since they were all using their phone to check messages and see SNS and the internet. I urged them to talk more rather than looking at their smartphone, but it didn't work even though they were my closest friends. Since I did not use internet as much as them, what I could do was just staring at them who were looking at their phones. This is not a good thing to experience and I know the feeling of being in ignorance because of the internet.

Also it can lead to a lose of ability to work with others. Stacey Irwin, who is an associate professor in Millersville University, says in her speech (Tedx) that she is worried about her students' ability to work with others. She claims that 'students don't have much experience' of communicating face to face. Students have lost their ability to communicate in person since internet and social media are invented. She talks about how the internet and technology has ruined our communication and relationship with others.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I want to talk about our future of human communication. We need to fix these problems and live a better life. This is what I think it is a solution.
Yes! We can use our technology and we also have to use our face-to-face communication.

INTERNET AND COMMUNICATION EVOLUTION?

COMMUNICATION EVOLUTION AND SKYPE?
According to my perspective (as a "pro" internet user), I think that the internet is leading us to a whole new stage of communication. If you have a choice between driving for an hour just to see your old friend or using Skype and save on those gas money, which one would you choose? I would sure choose the second one (mainly because I can't drive... yet). Unless you are a car racer and likes driving, I'm sure that almost everyone will choose to open the computer. It is just so much easier that way, the time you'd take to turn on the car engine, you could already be talking to your friends!

THE OTHER SIDE
But there is always another side to this. Say you are going through a breakup, would you rather have your boy friend emailing you about wanting to breakup or talking to him/her face to face? Sometimes communicating through internet just lacks the sincerity that human contact brings. The crucial point of the internet largely depends on the situations you've encountered; the level of communicating via internet varies upon situations so it might not be as useful under specific scenarios.  But it is also a cost we (as the user of internet) are willing to pay for a faster, cheaper and more efficient way to communicate.

THE VERDICT
Just like I said previously, I think that the internet is bringing mankind closer to the evolution of communication, as a matter of fact, I think that we are at the peak of evolution due to how rapidly the technology is developing. The pros definitely outweighs the cons that internet communication brings. Though sometimes the vast amount of access that internet provides can be undervalued by many users as it is in their life so much to an extent that they feel numb to their surroundings. So it is our responsibility to appreciate and maintain our awareness around communicating via internet (think how many people have been mugged... or trafficked through something as simple as a chat room on Facebook without them actually noticing the "signs") the amount of risk on here is also something to think about.

For better or for worse, the internet and communication

How do you kill communication? If you said the internet, you would be half correct, but more wrong. The internet is something that connects all of us, and helps us talk with others quickly and gets us information very rapidly.
For every positive there is a negative
Nobody can simpily define the internet as an absolute positive or negative, because we do not know who we are talking to anymore. If your friend messages you, how do you know it is your friend, or some stranger... you don't know at all.
anonymous We no longer know who we are talking to

The internet is something that links us together, and technology has change the entire way that humans communicate with each other
We can get information almost instantly
Technology, especially the internet has given us the ability to talk to other people very rapidly and gather information very quickly. The internet is a massive link between us and the world, and the things we own. Most of the things we have now can be connected to the internet By connecting everything to the internet, we can interact with the things we have, even when we are not around. Instead of calling home to see what needs to be bought in the fridge, we can use technology to see what is in the fridge and this reduces the time we communicate with others. The internet creates more fear, because we update so many things, that we no longer talk with people, instead, people come to our profile to see what a person is doing. The internet has created a massive form of communication but has created a wall as well. People are less thoughtful, more hurtful and post information about our lives, because we think we are hidden behind a cloak of anonymity, only attached by the username we pick. This is not the internet. The internet stores collects and sells information, which is linked to you by a special address, so everybody knows who you are. We simply do not know, causing more seperation

Overall we are linked closer together, having friends at our fingertips, but other forms of communications are now struggling to survive as a result. Communication should not just be on one platform, but on many, giving us the feeling of being alone and our person time to ourselves, which is now on the internet.

sliding into your DM's

communication

It is defined as "a means of connection between people or places".
So the question is, is the internet leading to the evolution of human communication in positive ways?

"These touch screens can make us lose touch."

The creation and development of the internet has really allowed for the evolution of human communication. With all the new social media platforms and apps like Skype and Facetime, it is possible to communicate with anyone in the world.

Like many others, I have friends in various places in the country and even on the other side of the world. Through the internet, it has allowed us to communicate with these people -- but what about the people around us?

As time goes on, people are losing connection with those around them. Sadly, I even notice this in myself.

When I used to hang out with friends during elementary, I remember all of us talking, laughing, and actually doing things with each other. Nowadays when I get together with friends, it mostly consists of us talking briefly then going on our phones and just staring at the screen. Then when its time for us to say goodbye, we realize that we didn't do anything. We did exactly what we would've done if we were alone in our rooms (it's pretty sad if you ask me)

Just as Prince Ea says in the video, "while we may have big friend lists, so many of us are friendless all alone". This "social-network" isn't making us any more social.

"kys"

Many people see the internet as this beautiful place full of knowledge, and wonders but there is so much in it that isn't so pretty.

The creation of the internet has allowed users to put on a mask and anonymity has enabled people to say whatever they want without having to face the consequences. They can go around saying every hurtful thing in the world, and hide behind a computer screen wearing this mask that cannot be removed.

The internet has allowed bullies to now become face-less. They can attack whomever they wish, and no one will ever know.

Not only that, it has allowed negativity to spread so fast. With a couple taps of the screen, that screenshot can be sent to people all over the world for everyone to see. This is exactly what happened to Amanda Todd back in 2012.

This poem by Shane Koyczan talks about these internet "trolls" and compares it to the trolls we all read about in story books as children. We were taught that they were just mythical and that they didn't exists, but the internet has allowed now them to exist.

Although the internet can be a wonderful place, I don't think that it is leading the evolution of human communication in a positive way.

I mean, how can it be improving human communication if it is keeping us away from humanity?

is the internet an evolution of communication

Internet as a symbol element of the 21st century, is advancing at a incredible speed and making us relying on it more and more. Today, texting is probably the most popular to communicate with people, some people even text more than what they say in the real world. So, people are saying, internet is an evolution of communication.

Some reasons why I disagree with this statement

1, Fake information is filling up the internet

Because basically everyone can edit stuff on the internet, there are many errors or fake stuff on it. And many news are really biased because people wrote them with their own favour and emotion. For example, there are many websites on the internet with extreme biased opinion and even people make up the data and post it in public.

2, anonymousness

On the internet all you have for you identity is a username, you don't need to worry about saying some bad stuff and get caught, because no one can recognize who you are. Many people just use this advantage to post whatever whey want without thinking about anything. Many conversations on the internet are just full of crap and negative attitude, there are less people showing their real personality and thoughts on the internet; instead, more "keyboard warriors" are existing, and they influence a lot on children who just started to know the internet world and trying to learn stuff.

3, Improper grammar and language in communication

When people type things through the internet, many of them would use slam terms and incorrect spellings to save their time or make them look cool. For example, today people use "u" instead of "you", "dat" instead of "that", "gtg" instead of "got to go"... And the consequence is many young people are losing their ability to write in proper grammar and choice of words, they can't get out of the online world to fit in the real life again.

4, Occupying too much time and people can't get out of it

Memes are spreading out on the internet which drives people crazy

Many young people especially teenagers spend dozens of hours on the internet each week, they are on the internet when they are suppose to do exercises, they are on the internet when they are suppose to study, they are on the internet when their friends ask them to hangout...

As the points I stated above, personally I disagree that internet it a evolution of communication, however it somehow did change our ways of communication. But rather it's in a successful way or still need a lot of improve, it's still uncertain.

Communication in a different way

The evolution of communication:

We choose to communicate in a different way as the technology developed. We communicate with people around us using social media. Is it really a better way to communicate? Is it positive? Is it  different to what we communicated? Definitely!
We all realize the change of our communication between people influence how we talk think and act. I asked my family about the evolution of communication, they all present different points. They agree communication on social media brings us convenience, however they react in different way.

The real communication

ME: mom, do you think communication now days is developing in a positive way?
Mom: I don't know, but I know you waste a lot of time on that little screen.
Me: But you can video call Grandma in Canada, you can see her.
Mom: see her on the screen? Right! It is convenient.... I guess... But it's better to see her face to face.
Me: So is it developing in a positive way?
Mom: I know it brings us benefits, but for communication, I think it is developing in a negative way! People are too rely on it.
Me: how were you communicate with your friends when you were young?
Mom: that's totally different to you, you know when I was young, I only got the television to watch and it is black and white. It was a luxury if you got TV in the early 80s in China.
Me: So you watch TV all day?
Mom: Definitely not, I said it was too expensive and too fancy, so we rarely watch it. And the TV program at that time only got few channels.
Me: So how do you communicate with your friends?
Mom: Just face to face! it was fun! And people were more extroverted, try to think: if you don't have a computer (any technology devices), you are going to hang out with your friends, then what would you do?
Me: go out and find them?
Mom: right, I rode the bicycle to find my friends.
Me: then?
Mom: if you don't have video games, and TV is too boring? What would you do?
Me: Talk with my friend, try to find something fun to do?
Mom: Right! Look, this is how we were communicating with friends. If there is no technology, you will find, even play with rocks are fun.
The communication before technology is created is the real communication. People are more close to each other and it is more likely to talk to each other with honest and empressement.

The misunderstand Versus sense of security through anonymity

Me: Hey?
Sister: hi, don't talk to me right now
Me: why?
Sister: I broke up with my boyfriend! He said he is going to watch a movie with another girl, so I was... too emotional...
Me: You talked to him on phone?
Sister: I texted him...
Me: Why you don't talk with him face to face, maybe you misunderstood something.
Sister:  why? Do you think it will be very awkward when I see him?
Me: No! you can explain how you feel! And he will also tell you why.
Sister: You don't know! I don't even know what I should say when I see him.
Me: Come on! it's the same, just say what you want to say.
Sister: It is impossible!!!

* This video shows how social media makes us unsocial.

As shown in the conversation, communication on social media may easily cause misunderstand because human are detected things with their 5 senses, if you only see the language but no facial, verbal, body expression, it may be hard to guess how people are really thinking.
People rely on social media to communicate because they feel secure.
1. No facial expression.
2. long response time.
3. non-verbal argument will provide protection. (less harms)

These seem like benefits to us, however, it is a false sense of security. We use social media to communicate and thought it will bring us protection and privacy. It not only influence how we will fast react in the real life but also make people are more likely to escape from the real life. (the relationship issues.) People use emoji to express their facial expression, it may also cause misunderstand of one's emotion. Have you ever noticed the level of composure, humor or even cruelty one can appear to have in their social network and not have in their daily life?  People are more likely to express their strong verbal expression on social media because anonymity makes them feel safe. It turns out no one really knows who you really are, so they release all their emotion on the internet. It becomes a way to abreact.
communication through social media is developing in a negative way. The ability of human communication is degeneration, no facial expression instead we use emoji, hide in our nutshell to release emotions, and this always cause misunderstand.

freedom of speech through the internet-- good or bad?

Freedom.

Google defines it as "the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint." It's typically associated to positivity, but in reality, the definition says nothing of the sort.

To base one's actions 'as one wants' could mean all sorts of positive things: creating art, listening to music, living without imposed restraint... But are we overlooking the fact that freedom allows those with ill intent to act as they want to as well?

from giphy

Who are you?

Anonymity is a largely ambiguous in terms of positivity and negativity. It's much easier to reach out for help on things such as forums without revealing one's identity, and that may help people who fear judgement off of who they are and how they're feeling. However, there are people who will abuse this anonymity, lashing out and saying mean things to others that they wouldn't have the 'guts' to say in person.

On the other hand, anonymity reveals one's true colours and leads us to asking the questions: is this really who I want to be? Are these people who I want to be around?
from pinterest

In an ideal world...

It is wishful thinking to say that it's possible for every single person on the internet to be kind to each other. But if there's a message I can leave with you lovely readers, it's to not be that mean person.

If no one were to be cruel to each other on the internet-- would we really have to question if it were a positive or a negative thing?
